Abstract

In the contemporary job market, the growing emphasis on specialized skills and continuous professional development has led to the increasing popularity of value-added courses (VACs). These courses, which offer supplementary education in areas not traditionally covered by formal degree programs, have gained significant attention for their potential to enhance employability. This paper explores the impact of value-added courses on employability by examining their role in bridging skill gaps, fostering professional development, and improving job prospects in an increasingly competitive landscape. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with recent graduates and industry professionals, the study assesses how VACs contribute to the acquisition of industry-relevant skills, enhance candidate profiles, and ultimately influence hiring decisions. Findings suggest that VACs not only equip candidates with specialized technical skills but also foster key soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and leadership. Additionally, VACs are shown to provide valuable networking opportunities and industry exposure, further improving the likelihood of securing employment. The research concludes that value-added courses are instrumental in enhancing employability, particularly in fast evolving fields like technology, finance, and healthcare, where up-to-date skills are crucial. This paper contributes to the growing body of literature on lifelong learning and skill development, advocating for the integration of VACs into educational curricula as a strategic approach to improving career readiness and labour market outcomes. This abstract provides a concise summary of the research objectives, methods, and findings, giving readers an overview of how value-added courses influence employability in today’s job market.
