Production Technique in Field Crops for Higher Yield

Acceptance: 15/09/2026

Published: 25/10/2026

Abstract

Field crop production plays a vital role in ensuring food security, agricultural sustainability, rural employment, and economic development. Higher crop yields depend on the effective integration of scientific production practices, suitable crop varieties, quality seeds, proper land preparation, balanced nutrient management, efficient irrigation, and integrated weed, pest, and disease management. This paper reviews the major production techniques used in field crops, including cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fibre crops, and commercial crops. It discusses important agronomic practices such as crop selection, seed treatment, optimum sowing time, plant population management, intercultural operations, crop rotation, mechanisation, harvesting, and post-harvest management. Special emphasis is placed on sustainable crop production, conservation agriculture, precision farming, integrated crop management, and climate-smart agricultural practices. These approaches can improve resource-use efficiency, reduce production losses, maintain soil fertility, conserve water, and enhance farm profitability. The paper highlights that crop-specific practices should be adapted to local agro-climatic conditions, soil characteristics, water availability, and farmers’ resources. It concludes that the integration of modern agricultural technologies with locally appropriate agronomic practices is essential for achieving higher and more stable yields while protecting natural resources and supporting long-term agricultural sustainability.
