Abstract

Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies of the digital era. It enables machines to generate human-like text, images, code, and multimedia content using advanced deep learning techniques. In India, generative AI is rapidly gaining traction across industries such as healthcare, finance, education, and e-commerce. The country’s growing digital ecosystem, large developer community, and increasing adoption of AI technologies create significant opportunities for innovation. However, several research challenges hinder the widespread adoption and effective implementation of generative AI systems in the Indian context. These challenges include limited availability of high-quality localized datasets, linguistic diversity, infrastructure constraints, ethical concerns, and regulatory uncertainties. Furthermore, issues such as algorithmic bias, misinformation, deep fake generation, and data privacy raise important questions about responsible AI deployment. This paper examines recent advances in generative AI in India and analyzes key technological, social, and regulatory challenges affecting its development. The study also explores the role of startups, government initiatives, and academic research in promoting generative AI innovation. Finally, the paper highlights future research directions aimed at developing inclusive, secure, and culturally aware generative AI systems suitable for India’s diverse population.
