Life Skill Development in School Education: A Critical Analysis of India’s National Education Policy 2020

Abstract

India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 paves the role of a milestone in the education system, aiming to create an inclusive and integrative framework. The policy is the significance of important life skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, creativity, adaptability, and resilience. This crisp significantly impacts different angles of school education. It emphasizes the importance of curriculum development, enhancing teaching methodologies and assessment techniques, and improving teacher training. The ultimate goal of this policy is to create student-centered approach and skills-oriented learning environment in schools, which encourages active learner participation through better preparations of school students for future opportunities. The rearranged curriculum under NEP 2020 is designed to ensure school students with the essential skills to succeed in society, facing upcoming challenges while ease the development of well-rounded individuals. The reforms aim to authorize school students , enabling them to face global challenges and improve overall academic performance. Furthermore, NEP 2020 serves as a restructuring tool, reshaping educational discourse in India and contributing to the elevating citizens for the future

Keynote: NEP 2020 is a turning point in the Indian education system, transformation from an education system that was mostly concerned with accessibility and equity to one that is concerned with all-around development and useful knowledge by means of various life skills. NEP2020 Introduced in the month of July, supersedes the previous education policy 1986, aiming to reshape the educational prospect into a reliable, universal and student-centered framework (Chandramana 2020).This innovative policy focuses on inculcating essential life skills, enclose cognitive abilities, emotional intelligence, social competencies, and practical know-how. The objective is to equip school students for personal and professional success, and global citizenship in an ever-evolving world (Aithal 2019).This study seeks to investigate the effect of NEP 2020’s emphasis on life skills development. It will conclude how this focus might affect student outcomes, teaching methodologies, and the broader educational system in India.
