The rapid growth of distributed systems, cloud computing, remote work environments, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices has significantly increased cybersecurity challenges. Traditional perimeter-based security models are no longer sufficient to protect modern organizations from sophisticated cyber threats. Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) has emerged as a modern cybersecurity framework that operates on the principle of "Never Trust, Always Verify.” This research paper examines the role of Zero Trust Architecture in securing distributed systems by enforcing strict identity verification, least-privilege access, continuous monitoring, and micro-segmentation. The study Is based on a review of existing literature, industry reports, and cybersecurity case studies. The findings indicate that Zero Trust Architecture effectively reduces the attack surface, minimizes unauthorized access, improves threat detection capabilities, and strengthens overall security posture. Despite challenges related to implementation complexity and cost, the framework offers significant advantages over traditional security approaches. The research concludes that Zero Trust Architecture is a critical cybersecurity strategy for modern distributed environments and recommends further exploration of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning integration to enhance its effectiveness.
