Language serves as a fundamental medium of communication through which individuals establish interaction, exchange ideas, and understand each other's values, ethics, and cultural practices. In a globalized world, the ability to communicate at an international level enhances opportunities for cooperation, trade, and mutual understanding. The increasing use of global languages—particularly English—has facilitated the convergence of diverse cultures. Moreover, technology, often described as the language of globalization, has transformed the world into a “global village,” making communication and access to resources more efficient and widespread. Globalization and language share a deeply interrelated relationship. On one hand, globalization enables individuals to learn and engage with multiple languages; on the other, knowledge of global languages allows individuals to benefit more effectively from globalization. Proficiency in a global language significantly enhances success across various fields such as science, commerce, sports, literature, and the arts. It enables individuals to showcase their talent, competence, and creativity on a global platform. Globalization refers to a process that transcends national boundaries, integrating economies, cultures, ideas, and communication systems. It facilitates the free flow of goods, services, information, and cultural values across the world. As a result, consumers gain access to a wider range of products at competitive prices, and new opportunities for economic growth and career advancement emerge. Additionally, globalization promotes intellectual development by exposing individuals to diverse cultures, fostering tolerance, adaptability, and innovation. Technological advancements, particularly the internet and digital communication platforms, have further accelerated linguistic exchange and cultural interaction. Social media and online learning platforms have made language acquisition more accessible than ever before. However, while globalization promotes linguistic expansion and interaction, it also poses challenges, particularly the threat of extinction for local and indigenous languages. This dual nature of globalization presents both opportunities and risks for linguistic diversity. Language is not merely a tool for communication; it is a core component of identity and cultural heritage. In the contemporary global context, languages are competing for dominance, and maintaining linguistic diversity requires conscious and sustained efforts. While global languages facilitate broader communication and integration, preserving local languages is essential to maintain cultural uniqueness and identity. Thus, the relationship between globalization and language is multidimensional, encompassing both positive and negative aspects. A balanced approach is necessary—one that embraces global languages for progress and connectivity while simultaneously preserving and promoting native and local languages. Such equilibrium ensures both development and the protection of cultural identity.
